Our extensive range of high quality ImuMed blood grouping antisera from Antitoxin offers some of the best quality serological reagents available for use in hospital blood banks and National Blood Service laboratories.
For red cell genotyping, Quest Biomedical is the exclusive UK and Ireland distributor for Inno-Train and Gen-Probe products. Areas of application for molecular typing include retyping of ambiguous serological results, zygosity detection, troubleshooting in the case of multi-transfused patients and screening for rare blood group markers. Inno-Train’s range includes RBC Ready Gene PCR-SSP kits and RBC FluoGene, a new typing method that combines the speed of PCR-SSP with Endpoint Fluorescence detection. The Lifecodes range of RBC typing kits from Gen-Probe is based on Luminex multiplex technology.
For platelet genotyping, Inno-Train also supplies HPA Ready Gene PCR-SSP and HPA FluoGene kits. Platelet antibodies can cause, for example, autoimmune thrombocytopenia (AITP), neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia (NAIT), post transfusion purpura (PTP) and passive alloimmune thrombocytopenia. Molecular HPA genotyping of patients in such clinical settings is an important adjuvant in defining antibody specificity and genotyping of patients and platelet donors is an important requirement for compatible platelet transfusion.
